Taking Effective Notes

WHAT IS NOTES TAKING?
Writing down ideas from lectures and readings in our own words .

WHY WE MUST TAKE NOTES?
  • help us to pay attention in class
  • help us study for quiz/final exam
  • help us to improve our memory
  • help the lecturers test students on how well they captured given information
WHY WE MUST REVIEW NOTES?
  • we lost 80% of what we hear if it is not reviewed within a few hours
  • identify any question for peers, the next class or to ask the professort
  • there is not enough time to absorb all the information given  in class if it's not reviewed on a regular basic
  • think "If I were tested on this lecture tomorrow, would I ace it? " make it so!
WHAT MATERIALS DO WE NEED?
  • loose-leaf paper
  • binder
  • folders with pocket
  • pen, pencils, erasers & etc
BEFORE CLASS
  • review the notes
  • review your reading assignment
  • make sure have materials do we need
  • write the on the top of your notes
  • leave spaces between the lines to add information later
PHYSICAL FACTOR
  • SEATING - near the front & center , avoid distraction
HOW DO WE TAKE NOTES?
  • date and label notes
  • give ourselves space to write
  • use abbreviations and symbols
  • use an outline to show
  • use our own language

Memory Learning & Improving Concentration

Memory and learning are so closely connected that people often confuse them with each other. For example, you learn a new language by studying it, but you then speak it by using your memory to retrieve the words that you have learned. Memory is very important to all learning because it lets you store and retrieve the information that you learn. Thus, memory depends on learning and learning also depens on memory.

LEARNING PYRAMID

MEMORY VS BRAIN

- Memory is individual ability to store, retain & remember an information and experience. (Computer Software)
- Brain is an organ (Computer Hardware)

ANALOGY COMPUTER

INFORMATION PROCESSING MODEL

Types of memories :
  1. SHORT TERM MEMORY - A potential to maintain in long term .
  2. LONG TERM MEMORY - A potential to maintain in short term .
  3. SENSORY MEMORY - A potential to maintain the sensors of information stimulus .

FORGET & REMEMBER

WHY ALWAYS FORGET?
  • INTERFERENCE
  • TIME FACTOR
  • FINDING ATTENTION
WAYS TO REMEMBER
  • INTEREST
  • EXERCISE
  • REPEAT
  • TRAINING DRILL
HOW FORGETTING COULD ACCOUR
  • did not pay attention
  • did not understand
  • cramming
  • did not have strategies
  • interference
  • test anxiety
IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY STRATEGY
  • massed practice vs spaced practice
  • break reading material down
  • rehearsal-repeat the info many times
  • elaboration strategies
UNDERSTANDING CONCENTRATION

Concentration is focusing your attention on what you are doing. It is important during reading, listening & studying.

CAUSES OF POOR CONCENTRATION

Goal Setting

5 STEP APPROACH OF GOAL SETTING

The definition of goal setting is the process of identifying something that you want to accomplish and establishing measurable goals and timeframes.
    For examples :
    1. When you decide on a financial change to save more money and then set a certain amount to save each month, this is an example of goal setting.
    2. When a team of people on a school board have a shared aim to improve education and set goals for budgets and test scores, this is an example of goal setting.
I also have my own goal setting. I really hope that I can achieve my goal setting. The video above is about my plan to make sure that I can achieve my goal. This is my first time doing the type of video.
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING & SUPPORT ME !

Good time management anables you to work smarter not harder, so that you get more done in less time, even when time is tight and pressures are high . Failing to manage your time damages your effectiveness and causes stress .
